The most common type of therapeutic massage is Swedish massage which is designed to relax the muscles and joints. Swedish massage is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage therapy. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by massaging the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and Lymphatic flow, and flexibility while easing tension.
Other types include deep tissue, trigger point therapy, sports massage, shiatsu, cranio-sacral therapy, pregnancy massage and reflexology. Not sure what you need? Contact the office and we will match you with the therapist best suited to your needs.
This Japanese massage technique literally means "finger pressure". During a treatment, pressure is directed to specific areas and acupressure points on the body to either sedate/calm or stimulate those tissues involved. Stretches are also used. The aim of the treatment and technique is to bring the client into a more balanced state, allowing the body and mind to work towards optimal health. Shiatsu can be also be integrated with other massage techniques within a massage therapy treatment.
Reflexology - a “focused pressure” technique. Points on the feet correspond to different parts of the body. During a treatment, a signal is sent along the neural pathway to the corresponding part. The body responds by correcting imbalances and removing toxins. During the treatment, some points may feel tender; after-effects may include thirst, the need to urinate and drowsiness. Completely safe to use in conjunction with any medical treatment.
